Ethics Training

All students are required to complete an Ethics Training during their graduate career.

The Conservation Sciences Program accepts any approved Responsible Conduct of Research (RCR) course offered on campus, or one of the four RCR modules available through the Collaborative IRB Training Initiative (CITI). Most CS students complete the requirement through CITI.

Completing the CITI RCR Training
  1. Visit https://www.citiprogram.org/
  2. Register as a new user.
  3. In the Select Your Organization Affiliation search box, type University of Minnesota and select it.
  4. Create a username and password, then complete the member information section.
    • Use your UMN email address as your institutional email.
  5. When prompted, do not request CME/CEU credits — these are not required and will result in a charge.
  6. On the Courses page, search for Responsible Conduct of Research.
  7. Select Enter to begin the RCR course (or Add a Course if you need to adjust your selections).
  8. After completing the course, download or print your certificate and email it to [email protected].
Choosing the Right RCR Module

Any of the four CITI RCR curriculum versions will satisfy the program requirement. Students should select the version that best aligns with their field of study.
