Admission Requirements

Applicants to the program in Conservation Sciences must have a bachelor's degree or its foreign equivalent from a recognized college or university and must meet the admission requirements of the Graduate School of the University of Minnesota. Although the majority of students come with a degree in biology or a closely related fields, the program admit students from other backgrounds such as social science, economics, policy etc. The students with limited or no biology background may be required to make up selected courses in basic biology and/or ecology. You do not need a Master's degree to apply to the Doctoral (Ph.D.) program. Some of our students receive their Master's degree while completing their requirements for the Ph.D. and others only receive the Ph.D. 

A statement of career goals (also known as a Personal statement), a diversity statement, a CV and three letters of recommendation evaluating the applicant's potential for graduate study are required. A personal and a diversity statement are opportunities for applicants to articulate their personal career goals, research interests, views on diversity and inclusion as well as how they plan to contribute towards the conservation community. Each statement should be about 2-3 pages.

GRE

The Graduate Record Examination (GRE) is not required for admission.

English language proficiency

International and domestic applicants whose first language is not English must provide proof of English language proficiency. A TOEFL, MELAB, IELTS, PTE Academic, or Cambridge C1 Advanced test is required for applicants whose first language is not English.
