Conservation of Populations, Species, and Ecosystems
Social and Cultural Aspects of Conservation
For my Master’s project I am looking at climate change effects on Zizania palustris (wild rice) populations. I am part of the Kawe Gidaa-naanaagadawendaamin Manoomin/psin which translates to “first we must consider manoomin/psin” in Ojibwe language. Manoomin/psin is both an ecologically and culturally important plant. Researching wild rice’s ecology and current stressors aid in conservation and management strategies for the plant.
